Bess Streeter Aldrich (1881-1954)

I’m currently doing research on North American literary landmarks [for a project I will talk about shortly] and was struck by how beautiful this woman is/was.

My mother belonged to a book club when I was a girl, and I would always see which books she received in the mail. I remember one in particular: ‘A Lantern In Her Hand’ by Bess Streeter Aldrich. I read it then, and as an adult. When Mom died I took some of these books she loved, including this one. I reread it, now a mother of several children. myself. Years later I let my sister borrow it for a college project (she was going to college as an adult, long into the work force).

Sis still has the book, and I hate to ask for it back, so today I looked online to see if it’s at our local library. Indeed it is, and I’m going to put in a request for it. I happened to see your website when I was searching, hence my line-dropping to you.
    Take care,
